Vintage Car Museum, Udaipur

Located just a few kilometers away from the magnificent City Palace Vintage Car Museum is an awesome place for automobile and car lovers. Moving away from the grand forts, castles and pristine lakes that Udaipur is so well known for, the Vintage Car Museum makes an interesting diversion. The museum is a collection of a good many vintage automobile models used by the Mewar dynasty of Udaipur. The Mewar dynasty happens to be one of the most opulent Rajput rulers, leading plush and luxurious lifestyles. Here at the Vintage Car Museum, you will get a tiny glimpse of it in the Rolls Royce and Mercedes models, which were previously custom-made and owned by the royal members of the Mewar family. The premises of the museum was originally the Mewar State Motor Garage, or the Palace Garage, now under the HRH group owned by the current heir of the Mewar family, Rana Shri Arvind Singh Mewar. The museum was inaugurated by Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, the founder of the National Motor Museum of England on February 15, 2000. Among the most popular displays of the Vintage Car Museum are the 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom which was used in the famous James Bond movie Octopussy and the Cadillac convertible that escorted Queen Elizabeth back to the airport in 1961. There are around 20 more antique pieces here that you can feast your eyes on if you are a motor lover, like four more Rolls Royces, one MG-TC Convertible, two Cadillacs, one Ford-A Convertible, one Vauxhall-12 and solar-powered rickshaws. Ahar Museum, which essentially includes the Ahar Cenotaphs as well as the Ahar Archaeological Museum, is located in Ahar which is about 2km east of Udaipur, Rajasthan. This historical attraction is famous for being the cremation ground of the Maharanas of Mewar and for its beautiful architecture. Dating back over 350 years, the Ahar Museum is a site of archaeological interest since it consists of 19 marble cenotaphs or chhatris with intricate carvings. Each cenotaph is dedicated to a Mewar king; it stands on a raised platform and has columns that are topped off by arched domes. The architraves of the cenotaphs feature ornamentations representative of 15th century temples and also have an image of Lord Shiva along with a figure depicting the Maharana and his Satis. One can find the cenotaphs of Maharana Amar Singh, Sangram Singh, Sajjan Singh, Fateh Singh and others here. Located quite close to the cenotaphs is the Archaeological Museum which, while does not contain a plethora of items, is known for housing unique and  valuable artefacts from the ancient period. Some of the items that have been excavated by the Archaeological Department of Rajasthan and placed here include earthen pots, a metal figure of Lord Buddha, a statue of Vishnu-Nag-Nathan, a skin scrubber, seals, terracotta toys, stone weights and much more.  Read More

Manik Lal Verma Park is a public park that is located atop a hill called Machla Magra close to Doodh Talai in Udaipur,. A beautiful space dedicated to the former Prime Minister of Rajasthan Manikya Lal Verma, it is primarily visited for its stunning views of the Talai and of Lake Pichola, its greenery and also for its serenity. This hilltop park, which is usually never crowded, is a great place to visit if one is looking to escape the busy city. There is plenty of space for walking, jogging or for children to play; there are swings too. One can come here for a quiet picnic with family or to watch the sun do gown against the serene lake. An absolute treat for nature lovers, Menar Village about 45km away from Udaipur, Rajasthan basically comprises a lake and bird sanctuary. This picturesque attraction is usually not very crowded and is the perfect location to witness a variety of migratory birds and to engage in nature photography. It comprises not only patches of green grass but also a 250m acupressure track, an open gymnasium and a plantation of mogra flowers. The Sahastra Bahu Temple, often known as the Sas Bahu Temple, is essentially a cluster of 10th century temples and shrines in Nagda about 20 km from Udaipur. Set amidst beautiful landscape, it is known for its splendid architecture. It is said that the temple symbolises ancient familial bonds along with the worship of Lord Vishnu. The attraction comprises a pair of temples around each of which are smaller shrines on a shared platform. Representative of the later Maru-Gurjara style of architecture, both temples face east and feature a mandapa with open projections, an open porch as well as brick shikharas which are now in ruins. The entrance to the temple in the torana style; there is a decorative cusped arch atop four columns. The two temples are famous for their intricate carvings which can be found on the pillars, walls, arches and roofs. Many of these carvings are of deities while others are scenes from mythology. The Udaipur Fish Aquarium, formally known as the Under the Sun Aquarium, is located near Vibhuti Park and Fateh Sagar Lake, and is actually the largest Public Aquarium Gallery in India. Along with hundreds of fish species and other aquatic creatures, it also houses virtual reality experience and 3D arts. Under the Sun Aquarium is the biggest in India in terms of gallons of water as well as species and number of fish. About 125m long, this state-of-the-art installation contains over 150 species of fish from all over the world that are found in both marine and fresh water such as the Puffer fish, Senegal dragons, Archer fish, Mormyrus rume and many more. Other sea creatures that would be able to see here include Albino frogs, Fire belly newts, Fresh water scampi and Indonesian crabs. In order to add the experience, the aquarium has several other amenities, one of which is the Touch Pool where visitors can interact with the fish by feeding and touching them.
