Sardar Patel Zoological Park

Sardar Patel Zoological Park is a newly inaugurated zoo situated in Kevadia, a town in the Narmada district of Gujarat. Located in the vicinity of the majestic Statue of Unity, this tremendous establishment hosts about 170 different species of wildlife from all across the globe, is home to a wide range of plant life and has a breathtaking aviary inhabited by endemic as well as foreign varieties of birds. The Royal Bengal Tigers, Zebras, Leopards etc. are only a few examples of wild animals one can explore here. The park was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31st October 2020, commemorating the birth anniversary of the much revered leader of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It is spread over a vast expanse of land about 1,300 acres in size. Unlike conventional zoos, the Sardar Patel Zoological Park is built with an “open design”, wherein the animals aren’t displayed in cages, but bred in their natural environment. Golf carts are provided for excursions through the park, which truly feel as thrilling as a jungle safari. Aurobindo Ashram

The Aurobindo Ashram, also known as Arvind Ashram or Auro Nivas, is the ashram that was the dwelling place of Aurobindo Ghosh during his stay in Baroda in the years 1894 to 1906. Located at Dandia Bazar in the city of Vadodara in Gujarat, this was the first ever ashram to gain immense popularity and respect in the southern areas of the state. The Aurobindo Ashram, which contains 23 rooms in all, houses a library, a study room and a sales emporium. Relics of Sri Aurobindo and all rare books that have been written by or about him can also be found here. The ashram is open to any and every person who is interested in meditation, spirituality or The Mother. The Mother, who was originally known as Mirra Alfassa, was a disciple and collaborator of Sri Aurobindo. Shri Aurobindo believed her to be the incarnation of Mother Divine and hence named her The Mother. The Arvind Ashram serves as a national memorial which was visited by many prominent personalities during those times. Housing the tombs of Qutubbuddin Muhammad Khan- the tutor of Emperor Akbar's son; and his own son Naurang Khan- an influential administrator of Emperor Akbar's dynasty, is the Hazira Maqbara in Baroda. Displaying typical Mughal architecture styles with ostentatious arches and octagonal platforms, the real graves are inside an underground chamber while the replicas are in the tomb.

Spanning over a whopping 2500 ft in the city centre of Baroda, the ISKCON temple has been preserving Vaishnavism for decades now. Seek Lord Krishna's blessings at the Darshan Mandap which is adorned by tasteful traditional art on all sides. Right outside is a pure vegetarian restaurant - Govindas, that serves scrumptious Indian food without using any onion and garlic.

It pretty much seemed like Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, just needed a random reason to build an edifice. The Khanderao Market is an extravagant building built under his supervision in 1906 that was a gift to the municipality on the completion of 25 years of his authoritative administration. He dedicated this building to Maharaja Khanderao Gaekwad and it is now a haven to several offices, counting the Vadodara Municipal Corporation as well.

Kirti Mandir, Vadodara

Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III was so powerful and affluent that he had an entire monument built to commemorate the cremation of his family members. This monument was called the Kirti Mandir. Widely known as the Temple of Fame, this structure was constructed also to celebrate the fifty years of his mighty administration. One of the carvings on the cenotaph makes one reminisce about the good old days, where India was not divided into so many states and territories, due credit to the undivided map of India displayed on the central arch. The 33 m high central arch is also ornamented with the sun, the moon and the earth and the rooms behold the sculptures and photographs of the members of the Gaekwad family. Read More
