National Portrait Gallery

A historic and unique art gallery in Washington DC, the National Portrait Gallery is also a part of the Smithsonian Institution. It exhibits the portraits of influential and famous Americans. It is the only museum to house the official portraits of American presidents outside of the White House. The 17 galleries of the museum aim to provide a historical overview of the American land through portraiture. The iconic portraits of Marilyn Monroe and Muhammad Ali hail from the 3rd floor of the museum. Built-in the style of Greek Revival architecture, the building itself is a work of art but a few of its notable portrait collections include portraits of Charlie Chaplin by Edward Steichen, Abraham Lincoln by Alexander Gardner, Hope (Barack Obama) by Shepard Fairey and John Adams by Gilbert Stuart.
