Staten Island Zoo
The Staten Island Zoo in New York City is the only zoo in the city not run by the Wildlife Conservation Society. Local legend says that the zoo initially had ties with the Staten Island Reptile Club which would explain why it has always had a particularly impressive reptile collection.
Their rattlesnake collection is still considered one of the best in the world. The Staten Island zoo is also home to 2 celebrity animals, namely Chuck the groundhog who is the official Groundhog Day forecaster for New York City and is part of the ritual where the groundhog’s movements predict whether spring will come early that year. The other is Grandpa, a spider monkey who correctly predicted the outcomes of 7 out of 9 of the U.S. Open Tennis Championship. The Staten Island Zoo is a small, eclectic attraction and makes for a nice break away from the usual tourist hotspots.

Statue of Liberty

Stephens State Park
Stephens State Park is a perfect place to engage in some leisure fishing with the area offering some best trout in the state. There are six miles of trails ideal for walking, hiking, and horseback riding. There are 40 tent and trailer sites with flush toilet and shower facilities. Swartswood State Park
New Jersey’s first state park, Swartswood State Park was established in 1914 and is famous for its recreational and leisure activities. An hour and a half away from New York, it offers some great fishing grounds near lakes Little Swartswood and Swartswood lake. Other facilities available at the park include swimming, boating, picnicking, and camping. There are around 65 tent and trailer sites with fire rings, flush toilets, and shower facilities. Group and yurt campsites are also available, giving the campers a wide range of options to choose from! Trails in the park include Duck Pond Multi-use trail, Spring Lake Trail and Grist Mail Trail.
