Callinico Winery Museum

Callinico Winery Museum

Callinico Winery Museum is part of a family-run traditional winery located in the small village of Kalipado in Zakynthos. The museum charts the nuanced process of wine production and bottling throughout history. Visitors can take a private tour of the winery and visit the vineyards, cellars, and the famous winery museum. They can also get an in-depth understanding of the modern wine-making process and a real wine-tasting experience. Taking a scenic nature walk across the lush green vineyards is a must. Antiques, traditional tools, wooden wine barrels, and original machinery once used to produce wine are on display in the museum. The winery was destroyed during the infamous 1953 earthquake. It is now restored and produces more than 12 varieties of wines under the fourth generation of the family. Anafonitria Monastery

Anafonitria Monastery, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is a 15th-century Byzantine monastery located in the island's northwest region. The historical building holds great religious significance as this is where the island’s Guardian Saint, Agios Dionysios, became a monk and spent the rest of his life. The church inside is adorned with an icon of the Virgin Mary and recently discovered murals dating back over 500 years. The monastery complex comprises several cobblestone buildings, pillars, and a square-shaped defensive tower. It also includes the main basilica, gardens, complexes, a small souvenir shop, and a taverna. Visitors can see a few donkeys before the expansive courtyard to enter the monastery through the entrance arch. The monastery is one of the few ancient monuments to survive the 1953 earthquake. Argassi Bridge

The Argassi Bridge is a 19th-century Venetian Bridge located on the Argassi beach, 350 m from Argassi city centre, on Zakynthos Island. The bridge is a major landmark of the village and was constructed using the local Tufa limestone. All that remains is one-half of the bridge with three 13m long arches located at a 10 m distance from the shoreline. The second half of the sea is submerged underwater. The bridge is a picturesque photography spot, especially for wedding photoshoots due to its scenic sunset view. Visitors can also enjoy swimming and snorkelling on the picturesque Argassi beach. It also offers various watersports, such as paragliding, sea-skiing, jet-skiing, paddle boating, and more. Argassi Bridge, built in 1805, once supported the main road which connected the south and north shorelines of the village. Several taverns and beach bars are located on the shore. It is one of Greece's most mesmerising snorkelling and underwater diving spots. The blue caves can only be accessed via boats or diving from the nearest shore. The best time to visit is during the mornings to get a clear view of the reflections. The caves are astonishingly beautiful due to their underwater view and the presence of vibrant corals within the sea. Some caves are even big enough for boats to pass through. The highlight is the main formation, called the blue cave, which is surrounded by upside-down and pointed structures called stalactites. It is also the biggest cave among the rock formations. The Bochali Venetian Castle is located on the Bochali hill in Zakynthos town on the southeastern end of the island. The enormous entry gate has two canons on either side and an archway with the emblem of the St. Macros Lion. The large watchtower towards the end of the castle provides a scenic view of the coastline of Zakynthos. Ruins of several 15th-century churches, gunpowder storage rooms, and barracks can be found within the castle walls. The castle is made up of stone walls and has elements of Cretan architecture. Take a short but steep hike from the base car parking to reach the castle. The castle was built in 1684 and was damaged over the years due to wars and earthquakes. Cameo island is located on Laganas Bay near the Agios Sostis area. Gerakas Beach

Gerakas Beach in Zakynthos, famous for its natural beauty, is located near Vasilikos town on the end of the island's southern peninsula. The coved beach is surrounded by rock formations and has a small cape-like headland made of mud clay with therapeutic properties. It is a designated nesting territory for Loggerhead turtles. You can travel down a wooden ramp and enjoy swimming or sunbathing at one of the designated spots for tourists. The clay ridge once used for clay therapy is now inaccessible due to its instability. The beach falls under the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, due to which some sections of the beach are restricted to protect turtle eggs. The mesmerising turquoise waters make for a great snorkelling session, where one can spot a few turtles and stingrays.
